North East is a small town in Cecil County, Maryland, at the top of the Chesapeake Bay where the North East River meets the bay. Its Main Street runs down toward the water, with small shops, restaurants and a town waterfront, and neighborhoods spread out around it.

US-40 and Route 272 are the main roads. I-95 can be reached from Route 272, so Wilmington, Baltimore and Philadelphia are reachable by highway, and Elkton and the Delaware line are a short drive west. Route 272 also leads south toward Charlestown and the Elk Neck peninsula.

The water is the draw. North East Community Park sits along the river with walking paths and a view of the marinas, and boaters and anglers use the river and the nearby bay. Elk Neck State Park, with its beaches, trails and the Turkey Point Lighthouse, is a short drive south, and Charlestown has a small waterfront of its own. Shopping, groceries and restaurants are along Route 40 and in the town center.

Housing includes older homes near Main Street, single-family neighborhoods built over several decades, townhomes, and waterfront and water-view homes along the river and creeks. Homes near the water can be in flood zones, and some are on community or private water arrangements, so we check flood zone, utilities and any association fees for each property.
