Delaware City is a small historic town in New Castle County, Delaware, where the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal meets the Delaware River. The town’s older streets have brick and frame homes, and the waterfront and canal branch are the center of local life.

Route 9 (River Road) runs along the river, and the Route 1 toll road and I-95 are within a short drive, which puts Wilmington, Newark and Philadelphia within reach for commuters. Middletown and Bear are both nearby, and the Port of Wilmington is a drive north.

Water is the draw. The C and D Canal Trail runs along the canal, Fort DuPont State Park has open grass, trails and the riverfront, and a seasonal ferry runs from the town to Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island. Boaters and anglers use the canal and river, and the town has a handful of restaurants and small shops. Larger stores are in Bear and Middletown.
